Carl Reinemann

Author, Researcher, and Historian

Carl Reinemann is a public historian, writer, and host of One Shot at History, a podcast digging into the forgotten corners of American history — the stories that lived briefly in newspaper columns, courthouse records, and community memory, and then quietly disappeared.

Carl researches and interprets history through archival newspapers, photographs, government records, and fieldwork, with a particular interest in the people and places that didn’t make the history books but shaped their communities just as surely as those who did. He writes and publishes under the Historical Horicon Wisconsin platform including many articles in the Dodge County Pionier newspaper, and has written extensively on the Horicon Marsh — tracing its history from Indigenous use through industrial transformation and modern conservation.

He also serves as a boat captain with Horicon Marsh Tours, where he turns each trip into a living history experience, connecting visitors with the layered human story behind one of Wisconsin’s most remarkable landscapes.

Before turning to public history, Carl spent 25 years in law enforcement — from park ranger to chief of police. He lives in Horicon, Wisconsin, with his wife Pamela.

One Shot at History — because the past only happens once.

Public Speaking Requests

Want a live presentation for your group?

History doesn’t have to be a lecture. Carl Reinemann has spent years turning archival research and forgotten stories into presentations that engage, entertain, and occasionally surprise audiences who thought they already knew their local history.

Carl has spoken to a wide range of groups — from Universities, the Dodge County Historical Society, to local libraries and civic organizations. No two audiences are the same, and no two presentations are alike, and are tailored for the audience. Using archival historic photos, GIS Mapping, original historic documents and artifacts, Carl brings energy and storytelling instincts into every room he walks into.
